# 4.2 Token Value and Incentive Structure

PEM tokens serve various functions within the PemChain ecosystem. Primarily, PEM tokens are used as transaction fees to cover the costs required to maintain the network. Additionally, users holding PEM tokens gain the right to participate in governance, contributing to the decision-making process of significant blockchain matters.

PemChain offers a variety of incentives to token holders to encourage their participation in the ecosystem. The main incentive models are as follows:

* Node Rewards: Validator node operators receive PEM tokens as rewards for block validation and network management. Rewards are differentially allocated based on the performance, availability, and contributions of the validator nodes.
* Staking Rewards: PEM token holders can stake their tokens to contribute to network security and earn rewards. The staking reward rate varies depending on the duration and amount staked.
* Governance Participation Rewards: PEM token holders can actively participate in blockchain governance and earn additional rewards through meaningful proposals and voting activities.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://pemcoin.gitbook.io/pem-project/4.2-token-value-and-incentive-structure.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
